Preview from Skins, Chapter 3. Rabbit vs one of the infected Solace townsfolk.
Lately we've been seeing alot of Rabbit as either adorable or being bashed around. So I thought maybe a quick reminder of his darker side was in order. After all, he's the Coven assassin for a reason.
Notes: This pages is still WIP (work in progress.) The final page will be neatened up and rendered further.

I shouldnt think he is this freaking smexy looking when he is about to kill something. I shouldn't think he is radiating a totes dom aura of 'you fuck with me and you won't live to regret it' but .....but.... Holy crap take me?!
Heh, thanks Yep, Rabbit can look sexy even when he's about to kill something
I'm working on a later scene with Rabbit in work gear and he and Tyr get a little frisky.....
I'm working on a later scene with Rabbit in work gear and he and Tyr get a little frisky.....
Time to pull put the big guns!
I don't know what to say
I knew Rabbit was a killer. It's part of him. He is a Smoke, after all
Oh yes, he's a cold killer, unlike Vinnie who normally kills in the heat of battle, in a blind berserker rage.
Rabbit has a...dark side. But he's different from most Smokes. Smokes tend to be scavengers, drinking the death of the already dying. Rabbit is one of the few who drinks the breath of his kills. He scares the daylights out of most other Smokes (apart from his sister.)
I don't really know what to say
I'm glad Rabbit has a dark side...the drinking his enemy's breath instead of blood is weird, but fits in with being a Smoke as opposed to a blood drinking vampire.
even though I tend to forget, he can not only protect himself, he can kick butt when he has to...
...and that's a good thing
Yep, he has a dark side - he wouldn't be such an efficient killer if he didn't.
I thought it was unique. Smokes do drink blood but that's a sex thing, not to survive
Oh yes, it's easy to forget because of how he carries on in his R&R. But Rabbit can take care of himself now.
Indeed it is
I like the way you combine some so-called traditional ideas about vampires and werewolves with your very own unique ideas creating creatures(and I say that with love and respect) who are similar, but not the same. Such a creative mind, and it sets your world apart.
that cute adorable Rabbit is a Wicked Sweet Bad Ass Bunny...and I lub him
well shit O_O
wow he looks kick ass here. he also kinda looks older though.
Yep, Rabbit's not just a pretty face Stress can tighten the facial muscles, making someone looking older and harder temporarily
woahh can't wait!
would like to see more of his darker side......
Oh, we definitely will be seeing more of that, I promise....
O A O..........
Bye bye baldy (lol). I love the setup t the mist walk, with his tattoos starting to... whatever they do when he mist walks.
Ah, thanks I'm thought it worked well. There are some Smokes (known as Unmarked) without tattoos and they can't Mist-Step at all.
Wow! Rabbit looks spooky. And fast. Looks like Cthulhu's second cousin has the drop on him at first and then... he doesn't... I like the expression on the infected guy - pretty clear that he thinks he's got a shot at point-blank-range and then is confused when Rabbit just disappears, quite literally, into thin air. Although, he doesn't seem that fazed in the last panel. Maybe he figures that he can still get the upper hand?
I haven't read much about the infection. Does it warp minds as well as bodies? In Skins, we see Rabbit approached by an infected woman who may or may not be a friendly entity. Perhaps there are those who embrace their infection and use it to gain power. Better to reign in hell and all that.
Thanks People often forget how inhuman and deadly Rabbit actually is. Jordan knew what she was doing when she recruited him. Although there hadn't been any Coven Smoke soldiers before, she considered Smoke abilities and saw the potential.
Cthulhu's second cousin - love it And he looks quite calm in the last panel for a reason. But that'll be revealed in Chapter 3
It often does - sometimes the pain, which is extreme, twists the minds of the infected, making them vicious. And if the infected Warp into a four-legged form (or Regress), they often lose their higher brain functions altogether.
Doing several Mist-steps has to be pretty draining, though. Unless one has ready access to an untainted source of liquid.
One thing that occurred to me that I discounted in my first post was that this infected man could be an ally of sorts or even a friend from before.
That would be an interesting situation - and by interesting, I mean agonizing - to watch a loved one succumb to a disease that has no cure. Syphilis used to be a death sentence that drove its victims slowly mad and produced a variety of more-or-less horrible complications - sores, etc. Imagine having to watch that kind of thing and knowing that, like Old Yeller, you might just have to put your loved one out of their misery when they become a vicious, snarling husk of who they used to be.
Oh yes, it's very draining. Part of the reason Rabbit can pull it off is because of training and because being a soldier, he's fit. Fortunately, he can always eat snow if he needs to replenish his loss of liquid.
You're very perceptive. Yes, he is someone from the past. In a way. But it's quite twisted. As time will tell.
Oh yes, there are some humans who are naturally immune to the Plague and have faced this situation. Did you ever read a very nasty little short story called "The Devil's Rose" about syphilis It's by Tanith Lee if I remember correctly. I think having to put a family member down would leave serious emotional scars. I've always felt zombie stories that show people blithely killing creatures that were human are inaccurate. Part of the reason the Coven exists is to provide trained, hardened soldiers to do the unpleasant task of neutralizing Warps when it has to be done!
I wanted to include your dialogue about Cal outing Tyr in the Skins Army but I can't find it Do you remember where you posted that comment?
It's a good read! Ah, I knew you were a fellow book-lover (I hesitate to say bibliophile - it's a word that just sounds wrong.) I too have books sprawling over every availble surface.
It's not easy. I think most people segregate that part of themselves, splitting it off from the other aspects of their life.
Posted it up, thanks fav.me/d6spsad Amazing how you captured Cal's mixture of naivety and stupidity so well In your piece, he never meant to out Tyr but it just kinda happened (story of Cal's life.)
Remind me, if you will, not to make too many cracks at Rabbit's expense. I'm sure that he takes a joke well, but...I'd really just rather not risk it. I rather like my kidneys the way that they are: free of long, smokey claws, and nestled safely within my torso instead of hanging out beneath my ribs like a pair of mutant testicles.
Most people who only know Rabbit in social capacity (drinking, dancing, stripping) would wet themselves if they saw him like this (yes, Cal, I'm looking at you.) Rabbit takes most jokes very well (except if they're about Rachel - that's a sore spot with him) but there are some triggers that need to be avoided.
Ouch, mutant testicles - not a yummy image
I wonder what the Dog Squad would think of him if they saw some of the things that he's done, or got to tag along on one of his solo missions. I suspect that Tyr would have had less trouble from his troops about dating a man than he would have had about dating a sociopath. Or maybe they would have accepted him more if they knew that he's got his dark moments.
Oh, gods...now I'm picturing Rabbit as a lightweight Khornate berserker from WH40K. Fuck, why can't I draw?!?!?!
You're right. Part of the problem is most of the Squad have only seen Rabbit during R & R (getting drunk, swinging on a stripper pole, dancing on the bar top) etc etc. They know he's one of the Coven elite and anyone who spars with him comes off second-best (apart from Vinnie. Tyr always avoided sparring with Rabbit before they got involved. Guess he didn't want to well, betray his attraction to him at an awkward moment, such as when he pinned the Smoke to the ground in wrestling.)
I think the Dog Squad, who value hyper-masculinity so highly, also see Rabbit as a pretty-boy. They may have accepted Tyr being involved with someone like say, Cal, more easily. There is an openly gay couple from the Stone Squad (a gargoyle and his handler) who are about a generation older then Tyr. But they're both masculine guys and they've both been together for so long, which may be part of the reason that they're just considered another Coven couple.
Can you give me a link to a picture of the Khornate berserker? Sounds so cool
You can write and you write wonderfully. That's a real gift
Knowing that someone is the best (or second-best) is different than seeing proof to the fact. I knew very well that a minigun was a hell of a weapon for years before I ever saw one in action, and believe you me, it was MUCH more stunning to actually be in the presence of one as it fired. Ahhhh, heavenly cordite...*ahem* If the squad saw Rabbit in the field, saw the carnage after he's taken on a pack of infected or saw him take the last breath from a dark-elf warlord, I THINK that they might have a more compelling urge to respect him than just a few lumps from sparring with him. Though seeing how he 'fights' with Tyr might not exactly help his case.
There are gargoyles in this story too?! GAY gargoyles, at that?!?! Zombie christ, just when I think things can't get any more awesome...I realize that I sound needy, but when do we get to see THAT? I've seen gay vampires and werewolves and elves and even a few dwarves, dragons and monsters and angels and demons and mixes of the two, but I don't believe that I've ever seen a gay gargoyle before.
When a gargoyle gets an erection, do they call it 'petrified wood'?
Ehhh...the more I think about it, I don't think that Rabbit would be an agent of Khorne. What got me thinking of it was that I pictured Rabbit during one of his solo missions, yelling Khorne's battle-cry as he went to work. "Blood for the Blood-God! Skulls for the Skull-Throne!" Imagine that, only from about a thousand throats during a massed charge of chainsaw-wielding murder-addicts. Not exactly Rabbit's M.O., but I'll send you a link anyway... static.comicvine.com/uploads/o…
If I'm going along with the 40K theme (my favorite branch of sci-fi)...I would make Rabbit a Raptor. One of these: www.deviantart.com/art/Raptor-… Fast, mobile, and with a preference for nice, long claws to cut just about everything that gets in front of them.
Oh yes, nothing quite like scent of recently used firearms I love knives but they simply don't have that wonderful scent I associate with guns. True, true, they would probably respect Tyr's choice more if they saw Rabbit in action Well, as you said, depends on the kind of action
Oh yes, the world needs gay gargoyles! So glad you like the idea We'll get to see them soon, I promise. I'm thinking Chapter Three of the main story, possibly sooner in Under My Skin.
Love it! That's what I thought everytime I watched the "Gargoyles" cartoon show. Not in those words exactly but.....
Nope, intimidating as that sounds, it's definitely not his MO. Thanks for the link - wow.
Ah, that seems to suit him better. Esp. considering he can shift his hands into something with talons during combat. Amazing pic, thanks for sharing :hug;
Knives, guns...I like the aesthetics of edged weapons more, but I respect and admire firearms for their destructive potential. And yes, their smell.
Eeee! I can't wait to see what you do with gargoyles. And now I'm wondering what gargoyle-on-gargoyle sex would look like...or sound like. I have to imagine that it sounds like a construction site...lots of banging and clanking and scraping and yelling. And jackhammering, my lesbian roommate adds.
*nods and shrugs* Honestly, Rabbit likely wouldn't work for the Chaos factions at all. The Imperium (humans; the good guys) has it's own orders of assassins, exemplified here: www.deviantart.com/art/40k-Ass… Rabbit would be the one on the ground (second from the right), very sneaky, very subtle, very cut-the-life-out-of-everything-he-sneaks-up-on.
Edged weapons are beautiful. My husband owns some lovely swords. But for me, the elegance and efficiency of a gun is alluring. Wow, stop me when i sound like I'm describing porn
Well, they're not main characters but they are important I wonder if it would take place in mid-air? And I love the idea of it sounding like a construction sight. I was toying with the idea of making the gargoyles quite militant, almost Spartan in their view of m/m sex. It's more manly! After all, love being warriors is the purest love and female gargoyles (in the world of Skins) aren't warriors.
Oh, that's really cool. There's an entire mythology behind this. I can really see Rabbit as one of those. He can definitely be a very subtle killer when the need arises.
Gargoyles rocked! One of my favourite shows from my misspent youth.
How is it that no matter what he's doing he manages to be attractive? I must know his secrets so I can feel pretty even on my crappiest days
Ah, I'm so glad you think so One of the benefit of being a Smoke - they're naturally pretty
I could use some of those secrets too - to combat my mad hair days!
