What to learn about the main character's childhoods? Origins is a series of one page comics giving you a glimpse into their pasts.

Smokes can only breed with humans so every Smoke child has at least one human parent.

After her Smoke lover was driven out during the war, Rabbit's mother couldn't cope with the stigma of having a Smoke child.
She abandoned Rabbit after the humans won the human/supernatural war. She took him down to the victory parade and just left him there.

Notes: Rabbit and Gray have the same Smoke father and different human mothers. Rabbit was a naturally affecionate and outgoing child, odd considering his mother was a fragile depressant.

Rabbit does enjoy reading (in his apartment, you can see he's sleeping on a book) and like many Smokes, learnt to read very early. But growing up on the streets, he has virtually no formal education and huge gaps remain in his general knowledge. His Coven education only focused on the skill set necessary for an assassin and soldier.

Part of his ambiguity towards Gray is because she was raised by a loving mother and was given the opportunity to go to college.

Rabbit's eyes adapt according to how often he's exposed to UV light. As a teenage living in the Pit, he seldom went outside so his eyes adapted for dark indoor conditions.  Nowadays, they've adjusted so he can handle daylight.

Oh no :iconohnoesplz: Your heart!
It's a pretty wrenching scene, right? It wasn't easy to paint at all.
As a wolf myself, when I see someone mistreat someone I like, especially as a kid,  it makes me want to track her down and rip her throat out.

I share your sentiment. It's terrible when a kid is mistreated, especially by someone who is meant to protect them.
And I think wolves, being pack animals, find such mistreatment especially hard to understand.
Thank you for the note :) As soon as I have the time, I'll give it the thoughtful detailed response it deserves. Most likely this evening.
